Ingredients

For the Lasagna
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 3 garlic cloves minced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 24 oz marinara sauce
  • 9 lasagna noodles uncooked
For the Layers and Topping
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup fresh spinach or basil

Equipment

  • Large skillet with lid
  • Spatula

Method

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add minced garlic and ground beef. Cook the beef until it is browned.
  2. Drain any extra fat from the skillet. Pour in the marinara sauce and let the mixture simmer.
  3. Break the uncooked lasagna noodles into thirds. Layer these pieces into the skillet, stirring them gently into the sauce mixture.
  4. Dollop the ricotta cheese over the top of the noodles. Sprinkle the mozzarella and Parmesan cheese over the ricotta. Add fresh spinach or basil if you are using it.
  5. Cover the skillet with a lid. Cook on low heat for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and the sauce is bubbly.
  6. Remove the skillet from the heat. Let the lasagna rest briefly before you serve it.
  7. For a vegetarian option, replace ground beef with mushrooms or lentils. Add extra vegetables like zucchini or bell peppers for more nutrition.
