- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8-inch round cake pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the softened butter to the dry ingredients. Beat with an electric mixer on low speed until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- In a separate small bowl, lightly beat the eggs. Add the eggs, milk, and vanilla extract to the flour mixture. Mix on medium speed until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pan.
- Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting it onto a wire rack to cool completely before frosting.
Notes
For a moister cake, you can substitute the milk with buttermilk. This recipe works well with a simple vanilla buttercream frosting.
