This recipe provides a quick method for cooking shrimp suitable for a fast weeknight meal.
Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 7 minutes
Total Time 12 minutes
Servings: 2 people
Course: Dinner
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

Shrimp
  • 1 lb Large shrimp, peeled and deveined If frozen, thaw completely
Seasoning and Oil
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil
  • 1 tsp Garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp Paprika
  • 1/4 tsp Salt Or to taste
  • 1/4 tsp Black pepper Freshly ground preferred

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Tongs

Method

  1. Pat the shrimp dry using paper towels. This helps them sear better.
  2. In a medium bowl, toss the dried shrimp with olive oil, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper until evenly coated.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Wait until the oil is shimmering before adding the shrimp.
  4. Add the seasoned shrimp to the hot skillet in a single layer. Do not overcrowd the pan; cook in batches if necessary.
  5. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes per side, using tongs to turn them once they turn pink and opaque. Total cooking time should be about 5 to 6 minutes.
  6. Remove the shrimp from the heat immediately when done. Serve right away.

Notes

You can add a squeeze of fresh lemon juice over the cooked shrimp just before serving for brightness.
