Homemade Hummus Recipe

This recipe provides instructions for making classic hummus at home using a food processor.

Ingredients
  

For the Hummus
  • 15 oz canned chickpeas, rinsed and drained Reserve the liquid (aquafaba)
  • 1/4 cup tahini
  • 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 clove garlic or more to taste
  • 2 tbsp ice water or reserved chickpea liquid
  • 1/2 tsp salt or to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil plus extra for serving

  • Food processor
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Method
 

  1. Place the chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice, garlic, and salt into the bowl of a food processor.
  2. Process the mixture for 1 minute. Stop and scrape down the sides of the bowl.
  3. With the motor running, slowly drizzle in the ice water (or reserved chickpea liquid) until the hummus becomes smooth and creamy.
  4. Taste the hummus and adjust salt or lemon juice as needed.
  5. Transfer the hummus to a serving bowl. Drizzle with olive oil before serving.

Notes
