Heart-Shaped Egg Toast

Make fun, heart-shaped toast with a cooked egg inside using this simple method.
Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 8 minutes
Total Time 13 minutes
Servings: 2 slices
Course: Breakfast
Cuisine: American

Ingredients

For the Toast
  • 2 Slices of bread Thick cut works best
  • 1 Large egg
  • 1 tsp Butter or oil For frying
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • 1 pinch Black pepper To taste

Equipment

  • Cookie cutter (heart-shaped)
  • Frying pan

Method

  1. Use the heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut a heart shape out of the center of each slice of bread. Keep the cutout piece.
  2. Heat the butter or oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  3. Place the bread slices (with the center holes) into the hot pan.
  4. Carefully crack the egg into the heart-shaped hole in one slice of bread. If you wish, place the cutout piece of bread next to the main slice in the pan.
  5. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes until the bottom of the bread is golden brown and the egg white begins to set.
  6. Season the egg with salt and pepper.
  7. Carefully flip the bread and the egg. If you kept the cutout piece, flip that too.
  8. Cook for another 3 to 4 minutes, or until the egg reaches your desired doneness. Cook the cutout piece until toasted.
  9. Remove the toast and egg from the pan. Serve the heart-shaped egg toast immediately, placing the toasted cutout piece beside it or on top.

Notes

You can use any shape cookie cutter you have available. For a richer flavor, use butter instead of oil.
