Method
- Use the heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut a heart shape out of the center of each slice of bread. Keep the cutout piece.
- Heat the butter or oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
- Place the bread slices (with the center holes) into the hot pan.
- Carefully crack the egg into the heart-shaped hole in one slice of bread. If you wish, place the cutout piece of bread next to the main slice in the pan.
- Cook for 3 to 4 minutes until the bottom of the bread is golden brown and the egg white begins to set.
- Season the egg with salt and pepper.
- Carefully flip the bread and the egg. If you kept the cutout piece, flip that too.
- Cook for another 3 to 4 minutes, or until the egg reaches your desired doneness. Cook the cutout piece until toasted.
- Remove the toast and egg from the pan. Serve the heart-shaped egg toast immediately, placing the toasted cutout piece beside it or on top.
Notes
You can use any shape cookie cutter you have available. For a richer flavor, use butter instead of oil.
