- Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish. Tear or cut the bread slices into bite-sized pieces and spread them evenly in the bottom of the dish.
- Sprinkle the cooked sausage and shredded cheese over the bread.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, pepper, and garlic powder until well combined.
- Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread, sausage, and cheese. Gently press down to ensure the bread is soaking up the liquid.
- Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight (or for at least 4 hours).
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Remove the plastic wrap from the casserole.
- Bake for 40-50 minutes, or until the casserole is set and golden brown on top. Let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
You can add other ingredients like cooked bacon, diced onions, bell peppers, or spinach. For a sweeter version, omit the sausage and cheese and add some fruit like berries or diced apples.
