Ingredients

For the Au Jus
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper freshly ground
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Equipment

  • Saucepan
  • Whisk
  • Strainer

Method

  1. In a saucepan, combine beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, minced garlic, and black pepper.
  2. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat. Reduce heat to low and let it simmer gently for 20-25 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  3. Stir in the butter until melted. This adds a nice sheen and richness to the au jus.
  4. Strain the au jus through a fine-mesh sieve into a serving dish to remove the garlic solids. Discard the solids.
  5. Serve hot with your French dip sandwiches.

Notes

For an even richer flavor, you can use a good quality beef stock instead of broth. You can also add a sprig of fresh thyme or rosemary to the simmering liquid for extra aroma.
