Ingredients
  

For the Cookie Base
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
For the Topping
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1 cup chocolate chips or your favorite mix-ins

Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Spread the cookie dough evenly into the prepared baking pan.
  7. In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar and melted butter. Stir until well combined.
  8. Sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the cookie dough.
  9. Drizzle the brown sugar mixture over the chocolate chips.
  10. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the center is set.
  11. Let the bars cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.

Notes

You can customize these bar cookies with your favorite nuts, candies, or dried fruit. Ensure the butter is softened for the cookie base for best results.
