Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil like olive oil or vegetable oil
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 cup broccoli florets
  • 1 medium carrot, sliced thin
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce or low sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon honey or brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil optional but tasty
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Equipment

  • Large skillet
  • Small bowl

Method

  1. Preheat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the cooking oil and let it heat for about 30 seconds until the skillet is ready.
  2. Add the chopped onion to the skillet and sauté. Cook for 2-3 minutes, until the onion is soft and fragrant. Then add the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds, stirring frequently to prevent burning.
  3. Add the ground turkey to the skillet. Use a spoon or spatula to break it up into small pieces. Cook the turkey for 5-7 minutes, stirring frequently, until it is cooked through.
  4. Add the bell peppers, broccoli, and carrots to the skillet. Stir well to combine the vegetables with the turkey. Let it cook for 4-5 minutes. The vegetables should be tender but still slightly crisp.
  5. In a small bowl, combine the soy sauce, honey or brown sugar, and sesame oil. Pour this sauce over the turkey and vegetables. Stir well to coat all the ingredients.
  6. Let the dish cook for an additional two to three minutes until the sauce thickens slightly and the flavors meld. Taste and add salt and pepper as needed. Turn off the heat, and your fried turkey is ready to serve.

Notes

Heat the pan before adding oil so the turkey cooks evenly.
Do not overcrowd the pan; this helps everything cook properly.
Add harder vegetables first and softer ones later if needed.
Add garlic after onions so it does not burn.
