  • 0.25 cup Butter
  • 0.25 cup All-purpose flour
  • 2 cups Milk Whole milk recommended
  • 2 cups Cheddar cheese Shredded
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon Black pepper

Method
 

  1. Cook macaroni according to package directions. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  3. Gradually whisk in milk until smooth. Bring to a simmer, stirring constantly. Cook until thickened, about 5 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat. Stir in shredded cheddar cheese, salt, and pepper until cheese is melted and sauce is smooth.
  5. Add cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir to combine. Serve immediately.
