Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and vanilla extract.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  4. Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a heavy-bottomed pot or Dutch oven over medium-high heat to 350°F (175°C).
