Description
These sausage rolls feature a rich French onion filling wrapped in flaky pastry.
Ingredients

- 1 lb ground pork sausage
- 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup beef broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large skillet, cook the sliced onion over medium heat until softened and caramelized, about 15-20 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Stir in the ground pork sausage, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook until browned. Drain off any excess fat.
- Add the beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and thyme to the skillet. Season with salt and pepper. Cook for 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld. Let the mixture cool slightly.
- Unfold the puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface. Divide each sheet in half lengthwise.
- Spoon the sausage and onion mixture evenly onto one half of each pastry strip.
- Brush the edges of the pastry with the beaten egg. Fold the other half of the pastry over the filling and press the edges to seal. Crimp with a fork.
- Cut each roll into desired lengths. Place the rolls on the prepared baking sheet.
- Brush the tops of the rolls with the beaten egg. Cut a few small slits in the top of each roll to allow steam to escape.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed.
Notes
- For extra flavor, you can add a tablespoon of Dijon mustard to the sausage mixture.
- If you prefer a crispier pastry, you can bake them for a few extra minutes.
