Description

A recipe for green bean casserole with a crispy topping, reminiscent of restaurant favorites.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb fresh green beans, trimmed
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 1/3 cups French fried onions

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cook green beans according to package directions until crisp-tender. Drain well.
  3. In a medium bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, milk, and black pepper. Stir until smooth.
  4. Add the drained green beans to the soup mixture and stir to coat evenly.
  5. Pour the mixture into a 1.5-quart baking dish.
  6. Bake for 20 minutes.
  7. Remove from oven and top with French fried onions.
  8. Bake for another 5 minutes, or until the onions are golden brown.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, you can use half-and-half instead of milk.
  • If you prefer a smoother casserole, you can blend the soup mixture before adding the green beans.
  • You can prepare this casserole up to the point of adding the fried onions a day in advance. Cover and refrigerate. Add the onions just before baking.
