A recipe for green bean casserole with a crispy topping, reminiscent of restaurant favorites.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb fresh green beans, trimmed
- 1 can (10.5 oz) condensed cream of mushroom soup
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 1/3 cups French fried onions
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cook green beans according to package directions until crisp-tender. Drain well.
- In a medium bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, milk, and black pepper. Stir until smooth.
- Add the drained green beans to the soup mixture and stir to coat evenly.
- Pour the mixture into a 1.5-quart baking dish.
- Bake for 20 minutes.
- Remove from oven and top with French fried onions.
- Bake for another 5 minutes, or until the onions are golden brown.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, you can use half-and-half instead of milk.
- If you prefer a smoother casserole, you can blend the soup mixture before adding the green beans.
- You can prepare this casserole up to the point of adding the fried onions a day in advance. Cover and refrigerate. Add the onions just before baking.
