Description

Make classic cinnamon rolls at home with this easy recipe.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Combine warm milk and yeast in a bowl. Let stand for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add sugar, softened butter, eggs, and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix well.
  3. Gradually add flour, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough. Roll it out into a 12×18 inch rectangle.
  6. Mix brown sugar and cinnamon. Spread melted butter over the dough, then sprinkle with the cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  7. Roll up the dough tightly, starting from the long side. Cut into 12 equal slices.
  8. Place rolls in a greased baking dish. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
  9. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  10. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  11. While rolls bake, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract for the frosting.
  12. Spread frosting over warm rolls.

Notes

  • For extra soft rolls, cover them with foil after 15 minutes of baking.
  • You can add chopped pecans or walnuts to the cinnamon-sugar filling.
