Description

A classic comfort food dish featuring tender beef and a rich gravy.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound beef sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 4 slices white bread
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, toss beef slices with flour, salt, and pepper.
  2. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add beef and cook until browned. Remove beef from skillet and set aside.
  3. Add onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute more.
  4. Pour in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and thyme. Bring to a simmer, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet.
  5. Return beef to the skillet. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes, or until beef is tender.
  6. While the beef simmers, toast the bread slices.
  7. Spoon the beef mixture over the toast. Garnish with parsley.

Notes

  • For a thicker gravy, mix 1 tablespoon of cornstarch with 2 tablespoons of cold water and stir into the simmering sauce.
  • Serve with mashed potatoes or green beans for a complete meal.
